Yaxchilán
Yaxchilán is an ideal place to discover the lush jungle of Chiapas.

Yaxchilan is almost inaccessible. It is reached by the Usumacinta River from Frontera Corozal, about 32 km. upstream, or from Tenosique, some 80 km. downstream. Yaxchilán is located 120 kilometres southeast of Palenque.

One of the things that distinguish it from other Mayan sites, is that buildings are numbered Yaxchilán. Among the most famous being a former sauna (building 17), the Great Plaza and the famous Red Temple (Building 6) with its delicate stucco work.
