SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS

  CATEDRAL DE SAN CRISTÓBAL

Located across from the square that bears his name, including Cathedral Square, next to Central Park.

Previously it was the church of the Assumption Cathedral and became the province to be elevated to the rank of Chiapas diocese. Its first bishop was Fray Bartolome de Las Casas.

The current building began to rise in the seventeenth century and was completed in the twentieth century.

  IGLESIA DE LA MERCED

First convent founded in San Cristobal de Las Casas, whom the mercenaries arrived in 1537.

During the Porfiriato the church was rebuilt in neoclassical style, adding that characterizes the tower, and the convent was enabled as a prison.

Inside the sacristy is kept the original construction of a Roman arch decorated with floral motifs and plaster reliefs representing the sun and moon.

  ZÓCALO O PLAZA 31 DE MARZO

  ASOCIACIÓN CULTURAL NA BOLOM

Interesting museum founded by Frans Blom and his wife Gertrude Duby Blom in a beautiful nineteenth century mansion, which displays a small portion of the history of the Lacandon Jungle.

Utensils, handicrafts, archaeological and garments on display are the product of more than 50 years of collection and classification of these characters, who were devoted to the study of ethnicity of the Lacandon.

Offers guided tours daily at 11:30 and 16:30 hours and has lodging and food service.

  TEMPLO y EXCONVENTO DE SANTO DOMINGO

Set built between 1547 and 1551, its monumental facade mortar (mixture of lime, sand and water) was built in the sixteenth century by the order of Dominican friars, masterfully combining various elements of the colonial baroque

• The interior is decorated with altarpieces of excellent workmanship and the pulpit is the most beautiful part of the church, because it is carved in wood with gold plating.

• In the chapel of the rosary has a Baroque altarpiece of the Holy Trinity.

• Inside the former convent houses the Museum of Los Altos de Chiapas, beautiful XVI century building whose courtyard surrounded by corridors and cloisters houses the Museum of City History.

The museum houses a large collection of archaeological and colonial art objects until the nineteenth century, an extensive textile collection and sample preparation techniques of the ethnic groups of Los Altos de Chiapas.

• Is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 to 16 hours.

• Especially interesting is the combination of the Dominican convent and church of La Caridad.
